Prayer Letter May (Mother’s Day) 2024
Dear Prayer Partners:
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
- Proverbs 31:26–27
As the first anniversary of my own mother’s death occurs this week and we celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, it reminds me just what a fundamental rite and absolute privilege it is for everyone to have at least a mother figure in their lives.
Throughout the Bible, we read about godly mothers who raised their children to love, honour and serve God. Mothers like Jochebed, Elizabeth, and Mary raised sons who ministered to and led God’s people. Mothers in the Bible were committed, hardworking, and resourceful. They willingly did the work that was before them.
Ellen White (American author and co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church) said this about mothers.:
“Next to God, the mother’s power for good is the strongest known on earth. Her smile, her encouragement, may be an inspiring force. Her influence will reach on through time into eternity.”
There is no doubt in my mind that mother’s are doing God’s work with children and why they are so fundamental to Open Home Foundation International’s vision that “every child in the world has the right to belong to a home, family and community where they are safe and loved; receive a good diet, health care, and education; and know that they are loved by God.”
